Who the hell do I think I am?

When starting something new have you ever asked yourself…

“Who the hell do I think I am?” “What’s the point?” Or even more, “Should I go this way or that?”

These confronting and sometimes crippling questions define us. It could be something like you’ve been looking for a new job and now have multiple, similarly attractive options. Now what? Or you’re sick and tired of your current job and ready to shoot yourself in the face, but afraid to risk leaving a sure thing for a new job. Or your husband is being an absentee partner, but you have kids. Should you leave him? Can you leave him? And maybe you’re inspired to start a new podcast but have no idea how…what if you fail?

The unknown is scary. However, not choosing is where we run into the issue…that’s where the breakdown lives. We aren’t sure what to do, so we do nothing. Here’s the good news. You are a pro at this. You’ve had a lot of practice. We have breakdowns and breakthroughs all the time. And look at you…you’re still standing. It just seems when we are really attached to an outcome the breakthrough seems farther off. Guess what? It isn’t. Get present to the fact that you are in a breakdown and then — just choose. You can always correct course.

By the way…the “should I start a podcast” idea is mine. Seriously. I had no idea how to produce a podcast, but I believed there was something there, a subject matter we all have in common and a conversation worth exploring and sharing. So I chose to jump in with both feet and learn how to swim.

This blog entry and subsequent podcasts are examples and expressions of the experience we all share with breakdowns and breakthroughs.

On each episode of BREAKTHROUGHS with Jordan Murphy, I will be talking with friends, family, colleagues and even complete strangers and listening to their stories about breakthroughs and how they navigate them. Hope you will join me on this journey. Feel free to subscribe and share your feedback. And if you’re really moved shoot me an email and share your breakthrough story.
